I’m delighted to have my haiku published in the September/October 2025 Issue #29 of the esteemed tsuri-dōrō journal of haiku and senryu:
the origami crane
bleeding from
my paper cut
Many years ago, I sliced my finger while folding a paper airplane, leaving a trace of blood on its wing. The result was merely a paper airplane with a smear of blood. However, the same mark on a paper crane evokes a deeper image of an injured bird tinged with a sense of melancholy. This mirrors the essence of haiku, where the sum of its parts transcends the literal, guiding readers to a heightened awareness. If a haiku about blood on folded paper stirs a sense of sorrow for a wounded crane, you have engaged with it beyond mere sight.
